Abstract

|
Objectives: This study examines dental hygiene students’ knowledge of and attitudes and behavior toward elderly individuals. As the population of elderly people increases, the need for dental services for this group increases as well.
Methods: A frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and one-way ANOVA were conducted using SPSS 25.0.
Results: Participants had various levels of knowledge and differing attitudes and behavior toward elderly patients; subjects who were interested in older people had more positive attitudes toward the elderly, as did younger, less experienced participants and those who work with older people.
Conclusions: Future studies should use additional measurement tools and include different groups of participants to improve understanding of dental hygiene students’ attitudes towards the elderly.
